Homelessness

This information is for someone who is homeless. It may also be helpful for those who know someone who is homeless and seriously ill.

If you are homeless and you are seriously ill or dying, you need to be able to access help. You may not be able to do this yourself. You may need help from homeless organisations or from your family and friends if you are in touch.

You may or may not have made a will. You may have done this years ago and it is lost. Having a will can help you in many ways. It can help professionals to locate your next of kin. It can also help them to make decisions after you have died.

You may not want to share information with your next of kin or contact person. You can ask your health professionals for any information to be kept private. You have the right to decide who you want to be contacted in this situation.  Ask them if you can be involved when they decide to contact anyone. A social worker may be able to help you with any arrangements that are needed if you do not want family or friends involved. Health professionals may also be able to help you if you wanted to get in touch again with family or friends.
