Comprehensive Palliative Care in Aged Care Measure

The Comprehensive Palliative Care in Aged Care measure aims to improve palliative care for older Australians living in residential aged care. Caring for people at the end of life is one of the most important parts of a compassionate society. This measure is looking to support new and advanced ways of providing palliative care and end-of-life care by state and territory governments.

The goals of the measure are:

  • To improve palliative and end-of-life care for older people living in residential aged care
  • To further enable people to die where they want, supported by increased aged care services

The project runs over six years (from 2018-19) through cost-sharing with state and territory governments, for this measure. The Australian Government is currently working with state and territory governments to implement this measure.
