COVID-19 has been identified as a key issue for health and aged care. The Australian Government has adopted a whole of government emergency response which provides a framework for preparing for, responding to and managing COVID-19 in Australia.
Nurses and midwives have a major role in treating and containing COVID-19 and in providing care for patients, residents and clients who have palliative care needs, are in the last year of life, or acutely dying as a result of COVID-19. The Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia recognises that in these challenging circumstances there may be a need for nurses and midwives to adjust established procedures to provide appropriate care to patients and clients.
